IWPR Central Asia and CABAR.asia present the policy brief “he Influence of Big Power Propaganda on Central Asia Security (in the context of Tajikistan)”.

This policy analysis looks at the ways in which Big Powers use a variety of propaganda techniques to advance their goals, ideals, and philosophies, as well as to undermine or discredit their rivals or opponents, sway public opinion, cause social unrest, and endanger the security of the entire Central Asian region. The study of this subject becomes more important in light of the ongoing “Great Game” and the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine. One noteworthy finding is the extent of propaganda influence, which was shown to be quite high. The majority of people have fallen prey to propaganda. The following are the main causes of people’s lack of critical perception of the information they get from the media: low educational attainment, a lack of critical thinking skills, a lack of journalistic ethics when analyzing and presenting information, a lack of proficiency with social media and Internet resources, a language barrier that prevents people from accessing alternative information sources, unfavorable economic conditions, and religious beliefs.

Recommendations were formulated intended for the government of Tajikistan and its main structures, for representatives of the Media, as well as for civil society.
