Power crisis in Kyrgyzstan has gained momentum in recent years. Electricity produced within the country fails to cover the needs of the population, and the country faces energy shortages. Electricity imports rise every year. While authorities do not rule out ‘regulatory blackouts’.
The unprecedented energy crisis that erupted at the beginning of this winter, and the subsequent arrests as well as dismissals of officials in charge of the industry, demonstrates the systemic crisis in Uzbekistan’s energy sector.
On January 25, three Central Asian countries found themselves in the power collapse in the afternoon. Electricity went out in the most part of Kyrgyzstan, as well as in some districts of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan. Electricity supply was restored partly or in full only during afternoon. (more…)

The regulation “On conditions and procedure of generation and supply of energy with the use of renewable energy sources” entered into force in Kyrgyzstan on November 15, 2020. It determines the new rules in the “green” energy market in the country.
Why Kazakhstan needs nuclear power plant if the country has a developed strategy on development of renewable energy sources that can replace coal power plants?
