IWPR announces a call for participation in the 5th School of Analytics CABAR.asia

The office of the “Institute for War and Peace Reporting in Central Asia” (IWPR Central Asia) announces the start of the call for applications for participation in the V School of Analytics CABAR.asia for young researchers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan. 

The aim of the school is to enhance the skills of elaboration of analytical publications on relevant topics and issues of the Central Asian countries. A special focus of the Fifth School of Analytics: Public Policy in Central Asian Countries.

The intensive program will cover such topics as:

How to write convincing analytics?

What is predictive analytics and how to develop it?

What are the specific characteristics of public policy in Central Asian countries and how can an expert become influential?

Innovations in analytics: how does an expert keep up with them?

What are AI and ML and how are they useful for analytics?

In addition to the theoretical part, thematic meetings with practitioners in the field of political science, public administration, international relations, economics, and media are envisaged. Eminent journalists and political experts from Europe, CIS, and Central Asia will be invited as trainers.

 The Fifth School of Analytics will be held in the period from September 26 to October 1, 2022, in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The format is offline but will depend on the epidemiological situation in the Central Asian countries.

 The working language is Russian. All costs associated with the school program will be covered by IWPR CA.

 Requirements for candidates:

 Between 20 and 40 years of age;

  • Citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan;
  • Bachelor’s and/or master’s degree in social sciences (political science, international relations, economics, journalism) or other related fields;
  • Experience in government, international, non-profit organizations, or the media is welcome;
  • Involvement in topics and studies on the problems of the Central Asian region;
  • Experience in carrying out analytical studies on issues related to Central Asia is an asset;
  • Availability to participate in the program of the school during the period specified by the organizers;
  • Priority in selection is given to novice analysts.

 The selection of candidates will take place in two stages:

 Stage I. To participate in the program, you need to fill out an online application form that includes:

 Resume (not more than 1 page);

  • Cover letter (not more than 250 words, explaining your motivation to participate in this program);
  • Two topics for an analytical article with preliminary plans (no more than 1 page, plans should include the problem, relevance, brief structure, and conclusion with preliminary recommendations);
  • Links to published analytical works (if any);

 II stage. Interview (upon necessity, online).

 The selected candidates will be notified no later than the 5th of August 2022.

 Mandatory condition: selected candidates must choose a topic from those previously submitted by them, pass the draft version of the future article before the start of the school and finalize the text of the article using the knowledge gained during the school.

 An obligatory requirement for participants of the school is a publication of at least one analytical article on the ww.cabar.asia portal!

 For the sake of general safety, it is encouraged to be vaccinated. Participants will be required to present vaccination passports or the results of the PCR test on Covid-19.
