a graduate of the bachelor’s programme of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy (Tashkent) and master’s programme of the National Research University of Higher School of Economics, Moscow. A columnist of several periodicals in Russia and Kazakstan. Areas of expertise: issues of social and economic reforms in post-Soviet countries, issues of authoritarianism in CIS, Russian-American relations after the cold war, American politics in Central Asia.

Zainab Dost

an independent analyst specialising in post-Soviet processes in Central Asia and other former USSR countries. She is also interested in the international security issues, including the threat of religious terrorism. The alumna of the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of the John Hopkins University and master of international relations of the University of Westminster in London. Zainab has worked as Assistant Liaison Officer for countering drugs and organised crime at the Embassy of Italy in Uzbekistan. She has also worked with the Open Central Asia magazine staff in London.

Farkhod Tolipov

a political analyst, Director of non-state academic institution “Bilim qarvoni” (“Caravan of knowledge”), Candidate of Political Sciences, specialises in modern geopolitics, theory of international security, regional integration in Central Asia. He has been an intern in the NATO Defence College (Rome, 1997), Harvard University (USA, 1999), instructor at Georgia State University (USA, 2004). From 1998 to 2002, he worked in the Presidential Administration of Uzbekistan. Author of 80+ research publications in foreign and local academic periodicals, joint collections of articles and monographs. Author of monograph “Higher strategy of Uzbekistan amid geopolitical and ideological transformation of Central Asia”; co-author of collective monograph “Central Asia: geoeconomy, geopolitics, security.”

Farkhod Aminjonov

Deputy Director of Central Asian Institute for Strategic Studies (CISS). Until recently, he was senior researcher of Eurasian Research Institute at Ahmad Yasawi MKTU (Almaty, Kazakstan). He is a graduate of the department of international law of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. He also has earned a master’s degree in policy and security from the OSCE Academy in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and international regional studies at the University of Tsukuba (Japan). In 2015, he earned a PhD from Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, Canada). He has been an intern at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (Oslo, Norway) and the Parliament of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Tashkent. His research papers are published in English and Russian both in Central Asian and in foreign publishing houses. Areas of expertise: energy security, power system control instruments, regional water-power relations, domestic and foreign policy of Central Asian states.

Moldobaev Atai

expert in international relations (foreign policy and water resources), Ph.D. fellow at the Free University of Berlin (Berlin, Germany). Deputy Director for international studies at Prudent Solutions think-tank.

Ibraimov Tamerlan

a chairman of the Board of the Centre for Political and Legal Studies (Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan). Candidate of legal sciences. He has graduated from the Kyrgyz National University, majoring in jurisprudence. He has a master of laws degree (LLM) from the Washington College of Law of the American University in Washington, D.C., USA.

Beishenaly Nazik

doctor of economic sciences of France. Specialises in employment, migration issues, as well as the issues of development of the agricultural sector, cooperatives. Author of a series of research publications published in France, Russia, Japan, etc. She has experience in executive and research work in government agencies and international organisations. President of the Union of Cooperatives of the Kyrgyz Republic, founder of the Professor Rakhat Achylova scientific award.

Sharsheyev Iskender

executive director of the Association of Foreign Investors, strategic adviser of Global Technology Solutions, member of the Public Council at the Ministry of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, economist, political analyst. He has solid experience in developing investment projects. Experience in civil service – 6 years. Experience in private sector analysis – 14 years.
