CABAR.asia announces the conference “Decolonising Central Asia: reshaping narratives”

Imagine a society where the cultural heritage of a group of people has been suppressed for decades, where their voices have been silenced and their identity distorted. This is the reality for many in Central Asia, a region that experts say has been hit hard by imperialism and colonialism.

Decolonisation is more than just gaining political independence. It is the restoration and preservation of cultural heritage, it is the empowerment of people to tell their own stories, shape their own future and control their own destiny. This is an extremely important and ongoing process that requires open dialogue and the participation of all sectors of society.

Analytical platform CABAR.asia is pleased to invite you to our conference “Decolonisation of Central Asia: Changing Narratives”, which will be held in Almaty from 15 to 17 March. We understand that this is a sensitive issue in our region, therefore our goal is to provide a platform for an open and constructive dialogue on the ongoing process of decolonisation in Central Asia.

The first day of the event will be devoted to the presentation of the results of the study of propaganda in Kyrgyzstan and the discussion of the general process of decolonisation in the region. On the second day, interactive seminars and workshops will be held for participants. In the third – we will focus on preparing recommendations for various sectors of our society.

We encourage anyone interested in the process of decolonisation in Central Asia to apply. Priority will be given to candidates from the fields of public administration, media, women’s rights, urban activism, postcolonial studies, civil society and bloggers.
