IWPR Central Asia Vacancy Announcement: Project Coordinator for Central Asia based in Bishkek

We are looking for the Project Coordinator in Bishkek to manage the IWPR Central Asia project on New Media Development and Thinking in Central Asia.

Job Title: Project Coordinator for Central Asia 

Based in: Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan

Reporting to: IWPR Central Asia Regional Director

Status: Local hire

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

  • To manage the development, start-up and implementation of the IWPR Central Asia project on New Media Development and Thinking in Central Asia;
  • To engage journalism departments of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, media outlets/journalists as project partners, and work with them;
  • To establish partnerships with prominent media institutions both inside and outside the region;
  • To monitor progress and impact of programme work according to the donor requirements, to gather the feedback of beneficiaries on the regular basis;
  • To produce regular narrative and monitoring reports on the projects.

TASKS and RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To produce a detailed strategy and practical work plan for the projects;
  • To conduct a needs assessment of the project and manage implementation of project work;
  • To arrange the production of research on the status of media content production and consumption in Central Asian republics, present its findings;
  • To develop the learning units on new media incorporating the results of the produced study;
  • To establish cooperation with partner academic institutions and media outlets/individual journalists, state authorities engaging them as project partners and providing support for them within the terms of the project;
  • To identify and contract consultants to conduct training workshops for partners and media representatives;
  • To design, arrange and lead training events for partners and media workers.
  • To design, arrange and lead other events including journalism labs, media marathons, contests, and prolonged media schools for CSOs and media representatives.
  • To assist the IWPR and cabar.asia Editors team to deliver editorial output, some of it generated by the editor and the rest by selected media outlets and journalists.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • University degree in journalism from an accredited institution;
  • At least three years of project management in media development;
  • Experience of working on new media content production and development;
  • Experience of conducting insightful media research;
  • Experience of organising and conducting media development events;
  • Experience of monitoring the project implementation progress;
  • Financial management;
  • Ability to implement systems and procedures;
  • Ability to design and implement media/development programming;
  • Working on multiple priorities to very tight deadlines;
  • Experience of managing diverse staff with a divergent range of skills and backgrounds.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS:

  • Deep understanding of the status of media, education and journalism in Central Asian region;
  • Ability to establish and maintain contacts with representatives of government, academic institutions and media;
  • Native-level fluency in Russian written and spoken;
  • Fluency in one of CAR language is desirable;
  • Fluency in English to a level needed for working communications, reporting and conversations;
  • Creativity, proactivity, and ability to work independently;
  • Ability to think systematically;
  • Ability to analyse and distill narrative information;
  • Ability to produce clear, persuasive written content;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Public speaking skills.
