Vacancy: Project Coordinator, Religious Freedom Kazakhstan (RFK). Deadline extended

The IWPR Kazakhstan is looking for an employee for the position of Project Coordinator.

The Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) is an international organization that provides support to the media, and supports local reporters, citizen journalists and civil society activists in three dozen countries around the world. IWPR has been operating in Central Asia since 1999 with a regional head office in Bishkek. We currently work in nearly 30 countries to build local capacities, strengthen civil society and media organisations, and empower civic actors to remove barriers to free expression and to promote citizen engagement and public dialogue.

Reporting to: IWPR Central Asia Regional Director

We are seeking a full-time Project Coordinator, Religious Freedom Kazakhstan (RFK) for the management and implementation of a IWPR project designed to build religious and community leaders’ capacity to advocate for legislative change; broaden support and awareness from diverse communities for religious freedom; and open spaces for dialogue with policy-makers to affect durable changes which respond to local priorities while reflecting international standards and provisions in Kazakhstan through delivery against all project specific objectives; ensuring timely and accurate monitoring and reporting; ensuring appropriate and effective communications with partner organizations, beneficiaries and IWPR CA staff and donor organization.

Main responsibilities

The Project Coordinator will have direct responsibility for implementing a 24-month project Religious Freedom Kazakhstan (RFK) the purpose of which is to work to build religious and community leaders’ capacity to advocate for legislative change; as a result of human rights abuses, including religious freedom abuses by building local resistance to violent extremist ideology.

Management

  • Ensure that project is well managed, appropriate and are delivering effective and relevant interventions within the target country.
  • Ensure that the current grant deliver within project timeline, whilst maintaining overall quality of the work and against contracts within budget.
  • Ensure relevant IWPR and donor organization’s procedures and policies are in place and oversee their implementation.
  • Work with partner organizations in the region IWPR staff to coordinate cross-border activities, meetings and trainings.
  • Work with other IWPR staff to maintain and improve the quality of all training, editorial and other project outputs.
  • Coordinate the outputs of the regional online learning center on freedom of religion and belief.
  • Ensure timely and accurate project monitoring and evaluation activities according to project monitoring and evaluation plan.
  • Oversee project expenditure and ensure it is in line with the budget and with IWPR and donor requirements, in conjunction with IWPR finance staff in Central Asia and London.
  • Produce scheduled narrative and financial reports for IWPR and the donor in line with their requirements.

Outreach

  • Establish effective partnership with partner organizations, religious communities, youth, experts and media in Kazakhstan; inviting them to participate in project activities.
  • Facilitate dialogue between key national and regional actors, particularly policy makers and civil society leaders, on freedom of religion, belief, or non-belief across Central Asian countries to prevent radicalization to violence.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS: 

  • Strong command of English and Russian
  • Fluency in Kazakh language is desirable
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills
  • M&E technical skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • People-management skills
  • Ability to analyse and distil financial and narrative information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain contacts with representatives of government, religious communities, women, youth, CSOs and media outlets
  • Ability to show initiative and creativity
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High education in social science or other relevant fields
  • At least 3-year experience of work in the international projects, preferably on RF and Belief or similar sector
  • Media development project’s management experience is an asset
  • Financial management
  • Ability to implement systems and procedures
  • Working on multiple priorities to very tight deadlines
