The number of bearers of coronavirus and pneumonia has increased sharply since the beginning of summer in Kyrgyzstan. A range of activists and experts are confident that pneumonia is directly related to Covid-19. After the criticism by the public and recommendations given by the World Health Organisation (WHO), the authorities of the republic joined the statistical data and now the country tops the sad rankings of the number of cases and deaths from coronavirus. The coronavirus pandemic in Kazakhstan has pushed for a massive transition to the digital environment. The situation with forced digitalization was a good lesson and revealed shortcomings in the provision of public services online.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected every single country in the world. Kyrgyzstan was no exception. On the 29th of May the Representative Office of the Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR) in Central Asia, its regional analytical platform CABAR.asia and Chatham House – the Royal Institute of International Affairs organized a joint online event related to the COVID-19 crisis and its effect on Central Asian countries.
In this economic instability faced both by public and by the government, there is one group left behind all possible parachutes and safety opportunities. This group is ethnic migrants.
The Government of the Republic of Tajikistan states that it is taking all measures to prevent COVID-19, but some medical workers have quit due to the lack of protective equipment.
