Under Tajik authorities’ order, over the past few years, dozens of families from the Gorno-Badakhshan region, Rasht and Kulob voluntarily moved to the south of the country. However, many migrants are dissatisfied with the new situation and complain about difficult living conditions.

On May 9, several mass protests demanding fair elections took place in several towns of Kazakhstan. This is not the first campaign after the change in the country’s leadership and the announcement of early election; however, it is the first one that is characterised by relatively violent preventive and response measures taken by the authorities.

Uzbekistan is the only state in Central Asian region, which doesn’t have a law on equal rights and opportunities for men and women. However, in late April the country submitted a draft law for public discussion. It has caused mixed reaction of people.

There are more than 140 thousand residents in the town of Chirchik, Tashkent region, including 500 followers of the religious organisation, Jehovah’s Witnesses. They cannot get registered in any other town of Uzbekistan, therefore, the information about their exact number in the country is not available.

Kyrgyzstan has 23 communities of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, 6 of which are located in Bishkek. The main prayer house is located on the outskirts of the city and is the spiritual centre of Adventists in the republic.

The topic of uranium mining has become a serious concern for the people of Kyrgyzstan. Yesterday, local residents protested together in Balykchy against the uranium mining, and today they were protesting in Bishkek. The people are very critical about this topic.
