Partnership Media Conference 2018 in Kyrgyzstan: How can we ensure safety of journalists

On November 2, 2018 the first partnership media conference dedicated to the Day of Information and Press was held in Bishkek; the media forum was dedicated to “Security”.

Over 200 media workers, representatives of the Executive Office of the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Central Office of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, Zhogorku Kenesh of the Kyrgyz Republic, professional media organisations, international organisations, journalism departments of universities, NGOs and other concerned associations took part in the partnership media conference. The event consisted of plenary discussions on ensuring safety of journalists during their work and on information security in Kyrgyzstan. The presentation about the role of journalists in eliminating gender stereotypes was also held.

In the first part, participants of the event discussed the issues of ensuring safety of journalists during their work. Experts told about the facts of attacks on journalists and laws protecting media representatives. At the second session, the invited speakers told about the factors influencing information security, prospects of television industry and the status of copyright in Kyrgyzstan.

This media forum is planned to be held every year in order to consolidate media communities to cope with urgent challenges. The theme of the event will change every year.
