Back in 2017, over 50 per cent of the population took part in the presidential election. According to the study of the youth development institute, only 30 per cent of young citizens took part in the election. In 2020, it became obvious after the parliamentary election that the younger generation of Kyrgyzstan has become more active participant in the political affairs of the country.

Although the media is protected by law, beatings and illegal detentions are common.
Currently, projects aimed at countering extremism are being implemented according to the same scheme. However, much is not considered in such projects. In particular, no attention is paid to the psychological component, while the perception of ideas and information received is key in the spread of radical ideologies. Kunduz Kydyrova, an analyst at M-Vector and a member of the CABAR.asia School of Analytics, discusses the need to apply a transdisciplinary approach in PVE projects and how mythmaking can help increase the effectiveness of such initiatives.
In early October, Kyrgyzstan was overtaken by mass disorders caused by the results of the parliamentary election. They continued until October 10. The situation in the country is stabilising gradually, but not in terms of Covid-19 cases. (more…)
