In 9 months of 2020, the joint external debt of Uzbekistan exceeded 29 billion dollars, according to the Central Bank review. According to the agency, the volume of debts increased by 19.7 per cent or 4.8 billion dollars from early 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic has aggravated human rights violations around the world. Lockdowns, closed spaces, and the inability to leave the house led to a surge in domestic violence. In the latest 5-Stan Podcast, CABAR.asia Editors in Tajikistan Lola Olimova and Muslimbek Buriev spoke about the situation in Tajikistan, where the lockdown was not introduced, with Nigina Kudratova, Media and Communication Expert at the PDV (Prevention of Domestic Violence) Project – an organisation that is involved in the prevention of domestic violence in Tajikistan since 2004. The project “World Air Quality Index” by World’s Air Pollution  has ranked Dushanbe among cities with the most polluted and hazardous air. The organization’s report was based on data collected from an air monitor located at the US Embassy in Dushanbe.

In Kyrgyzstan, 199 schools are beyond repair and must be replaced with new facilities. Their construction requires 87.84 million dollars, which are unavailable in the budget.
